42 students who were consuming drugs were suspended
42 students of Udupi's Manipal University have been suspended for consuming drugs.
Manipal University in Karnataka's Udupi district has suspended 42 students on charges of consuming and selling drugs. The suspended students will not be allowed to attend classes for one month, the university said in a statement.
Suspended students are barred from using university infrastructure. For the first time, the university has joined hands with the police for a drug eradication mission and has taken measures to suspend students,' the statement said.
A significant operation against drug consumption has been conducted in Udupi district and many drug cases have been detected in Manipal police station. Many peddlers were arrested in this operation and it was possible to find out who the customers were.
The department identified the students and informed the university about the drug dealing in the college and hostel premises. Later, we found the students who were involved in the racket and subjected them to medical examination. Manipal University responded positively when the details of the cases where the charges were proved were given. District Superintendent of Police Akshaya Machindra said that 42 students have been suspended.
